I've thought for some time that globalisation has brought about a huge transference of wealth, and that with greater wealth has come fear of loss and subsequent imposition/acceptance of increased social controls. Great read - thanks.

There are more of the withouts than the with everything … the control of the limbic system is everything in this scenario …

So is the limbic system simultaneously driving a greed-based system while creating fear which precludes challenges to said system?

The limbic system is made up of neural cells and mechanisms that are predominantly created by innate traits, the environment and personal experiences. So the reactions/behaviours that occur from these functions tend to have been programmed through social conditioning, learned behaviour (often from pre 18 months old) and emotional needs. The brain has a negative bias (from an evolutionary perspective to keep us alive) so we notice more negative, life threatening influences. The good thing though is that we can rewire our brain to notice more positive influences, the hippocampus and hypothalamus are extremely plastic plus we can work with the amygdala to make it less reactive. We can. If we choose to. It is a choice. We are surrounded by influencers who are fear and doom mongerers. There is a reason for that. We can choose different. We all can.
