Make sense, I guess there is a logic to the unlogic always... even if I am confused by my emotions if I ask myself where they might come from I can find the answer and also logic (PMS, life changes, past trauma, tiredness, unhealthy diet etc ... ) not so easy as we really have to know ourselves and be honest with ourselves to do that but that means we can trust our guts and instincts more as well!
and often we sometimes we have to just accept that we have experienced really tough situations that we need to undertsand have had a huge impact.. sometimes we just need to accept our emotional world is telling us that we need to take time to be aware of how tough they were.
Hi Rachel, I definitely agree that emotions are not to be ignored but understood and thought about.
Sometimes though, I find myself having emotions that I cannot connect to reality. For example I feel nostalgic, sad or not motivated but there is not apparent reason. My understanding is that emotions can be triggered by thoughts, hormonal balance, tiredness, physical inactivity so what do we do with those emotions that are somehow just a consequence of a negative thought or of a day spend working too hard? Do we rely on them? Or they are just a chemical in our brain? What I am saying is sometimes emotions can be counterproductive or a false alarm or are they always symptoms that something is going on with us? Do we always listen to them or sometimes they are just fruit of an imbalance? ( too tired, PMS, negative thinking, etc) - I want to respect my emotions but also not trusting them blindly as sometimes they do not make much sense! Thanks!
Love this comment as it is so true! We cannot completely trust our limbic systems unless we are completely sure of what has influenced it. Being able to just ask ourselves objective questions about what/why/hw are we feeling before we act upon the emotion is essential to understanding what the messages are all about. As well as understanding that the intensity of that emotion may well be because we have not acknowledged it before and why it is there. By teaching ourselves the power of the pause, the power of asking questions, the power of just feeling without needing to react immediately then we can really start to connect with ourselves and understand what we need to do to express ourselves. When we see how emotions are portrayed in the social media environment, the cinema, tv programming, advertisements etc we can see why and how humanity has ended up where it has. Trust is earnt, and we need to also understand that trusting ourself is a hugelyy important part of our experience. We can only start to trust our emotions when we trust how we are interpreting them and what they are telling us about.
